DC Readies for King Charles' Visit, But Bumps into Australian Flag Mistake
The District of Columbia inadvertently displayed several Australian flags instead of British flags near the White House in preparation for King Charles’ visit to the US. However, a D.C. Department of Transportation official reported that the mistake was swiftly rectified on Friday.

While Charles serves as the head of state for Australia, this role is predominantly ceremonial.

Fifteen Australian flags were temporarily showcased among more than 230 flags intended to welcome the British king upon his arrival in the US capital on Monday. These were subsequently replaced with the British flag, as confirmed by the official.

Charles’ state visit commemorates the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence from British rule and is regarded as the most significant trip of his reign to date.

The visit aims to strengthen the allies’ “special relationship,” which has deteriorated to its lowest point in 70 years amid tensions related to the Iran war.
