Following a challenging start to the season, during which he scored merely 22 runs in three innings, Samson notched up an impressive 115*, featuring 15 fours and four sixes against the Axar Patel-led squad.
“I have experienced a lot of failures. Experiencing setbacks teaches you how to bounce back. Mentally, you consider whether to push hard or adjust your game plan. It’s essential to bring both your body and mind back to the basics,” Samson stated during the post-match presentation.
“Returning to basics means entering a different mental zone. We need to focus on timing the ball and watching it come off the bowler’s hand. I’m really pleased with how things turned out today.”
Samson added that the transition from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to CSK has been facilitated by the welcoming team atmosphere in Chennai.
“Starting fresh at a different franchise is challenging, but it never felt difficult for me. It was like coming to a second home. We had a 50-second meeting today (despite three losses) – that resonates with who I am.”
Regarding his 113-run partnership with young talent Ayush Mhatre (59), he remarked, “Having a strong partnership is crucial. It never seemed like he (Mhatre) was new to the senior setup—his calculation was impressive. It reflects his character.”
Samson dedicated his celebration upon reaching his century to head coach Stephen Fleming. He appreciated the pressures that come with leading a franchise and wanted to express his gratitude to the Kiwi coach.
Samson expressed, “That celebration was for (Stephen) Fleming. I understand how tough it can be to lead a franchise for years. I just wanted to dedicate this innings to Fleming.”
CSK is set to host the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 14 for their next league match at Chepauk.
