Kerala Elections: CPI(M) and Congress Criticize Election Commission for Delay in Publishing Poll Results
The CPI(M) and Congress raised concerns on Monday (April 13) regarding the Election Commission (EC) over the holdup in publishing detailed polling data from the recent Kerala Assembly elections.

Senior Congress figure VD Satheesan has reached out to the Commission, urging it to promptly release the data concerning the Assembly elections held on April 9.

In his correspondence to the Chief Election Commissioner, Satheesan emphasized that even after three days since the end of polling, official and validated figures remain unavailable on the Commission’s website.
He noted in his letter dated April 12 that constituency-wise polling data, vote percentages, and postal ballot statistics have yet to be disclosed.

He stressed that timely access to such information is vital for ensuring transparency, allowing public scrutiny, and preserving trust in the electoral process.

Furthermore, Satheesan urged the Commission to publish details concerning polling percentages and postal voting metrics on its official website without any further delay.

In the meantime, CPI(M) leader and General Education Minister V Sivankutty also highlighted the delay, labeling it “unusual”.

“It has been four days since the election. It is quite uncommon for the Election Commission not to have released the final vote count,” he stated to the media.

He called on the Commission to promptly share the final tally, which should include votes from electronic voting machines, service votes, postal ballots, and home-cast votes.

Sivankutty further requested clarification regarding the reasons for the delay, noting that in today’s technological age, such a slowdown in data compilation raises questions about transparency.

The Commission must take immediate action to address public concerns and officially publish accurate figures for all vote categories, he added.

As per the EC website, Kerala saw a voter turnout of 78.03% in the Assembly elections on April 9.

A total of 883 candidates participated across 140 constituencies. The results are set to be announced on May 4.
