Netflix payment scam: Authorities caution users about fraudulent alerts
The government has released a new warning regarding an increase in Netflix payment scams, advising users to stay alert when handling payment-related messages.

The advisory pointed out that cybercriminals are employing deceptive alerts that imitate official Netflix communications to trick users into providing sensitive information, according to a Moneycontrol report.

As part of a recent awareness initiative, authorities encouraged users to distinguish which of two Netflix payment alerts seemed legitimate, aiming to illustrate how closely phishing messages can resemble genuine notifications and potentially result in financial loss.
The scam typically begins with messages indicating a payment failure or cautioning that the account may be suspended, pressuring users to click on a link to resolve the situation. These links frequently redirect to fraudulent websites designed to capture sensitive information such as card details, login credentials, and OTPs, which can later be exploited.

Officials mentioned that these messages often create a sense of urgency to compel users to act swiftly. Users are advised to be wary of red flags like generic salutations, questionable links, and inconsistencies in the message format.

The advisory emphasizes that users should refrain from clicking on unfamiliar links and instead address any payment-related concerns through official channels. It also encourages users to verify the sender before taking any action and to avoid sharing personal or financial information unless the source is confirmed.
