On Saturday, April 4, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed a desire to engage in discussions in Islamabad, asserting that his country’s stance on the war, which has resulted in the deaths of over 3,500 Iranians, is being inaccurately portrayed.
“What we prioritize are the conditions for a definitive and enduring END to the unlawful war that has been forced upon us,” Araghchi stated on X. “Iran’s viewpoint is misrepresented by US media.”

We deeply appreciate Pakistan’s efforts and have never turned down the opportunity to travel to Islamabad. What we prioritize are the conditions for a definitive and enduring END to the unlawful war that has been imposed on us.

He also expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its mediating efforts.
Shortly afterward, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to issue a warning to Iran regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for oil and energy shipping, within the next 48 hours. He indicated no willingness to engage in discussions about the specifics of the terms necessary to conclude the war, although both parties are now aligned in principle for talks.
“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT? Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them,” Trump posted on X.
The US aims to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program, citing it as a global threat in the hands of the wrong individuals. This demand was also a prominent factor in the 15-point proposal the US presented last month for ending the conflict. Iran has rejected the proposal as “maximalist,” asserting that it seeks to pursue compensation for the harm incurred from continuous assaults by the US and Israel, as reported by Al Jazeera.
According to rights group HRANA, 3,531 Iranians, including 244 children, have lost their lives in the conflict. Concurrently, 19 Israelis and 13 US service members have also succumbed.
