A senior official from the Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office reported that around 35 to 40% of names have been removed from the electoral rolls so far.
“By Thursday evening, verification and resolution of about 52 lakh cases under adjudication have been finalized. Work is ongoing for nearly 8 lakh remaining applicants and should wrap up within the next four days,” he stated.
Officials are confident that if the current pace continues, the entire adjudication will be finished by April 7.
After the final draft electoral rolls were published, over 60 lakh names have been under examination.
The adjudication process is being conducted by judicial officers following Supreme Court directives.
This exercise is crucial as the first phase of elections in the state is planned for April 23, with the deadline for filing nominations for this phase being April 6. The verification must be finished before the rolls are finalized.

According to the poll official, ensuring the safety of judicial officers involved in the verification process has become increasingly important after an incident in Malda’s Kaliachak, where they were besieged on Wednesday night.
“In light of this incident, appropriate measures are being implemented to safeguard the judicial officers responsible for voter verification,” a source mentioned.
Meanwhile, individuals whose names are not included in the supplementary list will need to approach tribunals for resolution. However, there remains uncertainty regarding when the tribunals will commence operations.
