Notable Increase in Early Insurance Purchases
There has been a significant rise in early travel insurance bookings—from 24% in 2024 to 76% in 2025. This 100.3% increase is largely due to heightened awareness of travel risks and new visa-related insurance requirements.
“Advance travel insurance bookings soared from 24% to 76% within a year,” commented Meet Kapadia, Head of Travel Insurance at Policybazaar. “Travel insurance has become essential; it’s no longer merely optional. Sixty-two percent of travelers now select coverage of $250,000 or more, emphasizing protection over cost savings.”
Growth in Family Travel, but Pediatric Coverage Lags
Family travel bookings increased by 6%, largely driven by school vacation timing. Nonetheless, awareness of pediatric travel coverage is still limited. Many insurance plans provide minimal protection for pre-existing or congenital conditions in children.
Experts recommend that families carefully review policy details.
Adventure Sports Add-On is Most Popular
Among optional travel insurance add-ons, the adventure sports rider is favored by 84% of buyers. Visa Fee Refund (9%) and PED (pre-existing disease) covers (6%) are also gaining popularity, indicating a move toward more personalized risk protection options.
Travelers Opting for Higher Coverage
Sixty-two percent of international travelers now select travel insurance coverage of $250,000 or more, an increase from the previous standard of $100,000. This trend reflects a greater focus on strong financial protection.
