New CCTV regulations commence on April 1
Under the government’s STQC framework, internet-connected CCTV devices are now required to obtain mandatory clearance prior to being sold. According to industry insiders, as reported by Economic Times, this approval is unlikely to be given to brands like Hikvision, Dahua, and TP-Link.
Devices that utilize Chinese-origin chipsets may also fail to meet compliance standards.
The outcome is clear: without certification, legal sales in India are impossible.
In light of this development, Nikhil Rajpal, Founder of Qubo, remarked:
“We appreciate the government’s initiative to tighten regulations around non-compliant, internet-connected CCTV systems. This isn’t merely a policy change; it represents a vital move towards enhancing national and personal security, while also showing strong support for Indian brands and manufacturing.”
Indian companies gain market share
This isn’t an abrupt shift; the transition has been in progress.
Chinese brands, which once captured about a third of the market, have gradually lost their foothold. Domestic manufacturers have stepped in, ramping up production and modifying supply chains to lessen reliance on Chinese components.
By early 2026, it’s expected that Indian companies will dominate a significant portion of the segment—approximately 80%, according to Economic Times. However, premium installations still favor global companies.
