2026 Bypoll Election Voting: Updates on Polling for Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura Seats
Voting commenced for the Assembly by-elections in Karnataka’s Davangere South and Bagalkot constituencies, as well as the Koridang constituency in Nagaland, and the Dharmanagar constituency in Tripura on Thursday, April 9.

As per early polling trends noted by 1:00 pm, Koridang in Nagaland demonstrated a notable turnout of 59.52%, marking the highest among the constituencies reported up to that point. Dharmanagar in Tripura followed with a turnout of 52.76%. In Karnataka, Bagalkot saw 43.75% of its voters participate, while Davanagere South reported a slightly lower turnout of 49.66%.

These elections were called to fill the Assembly seats vacated due to the passing of their respective representatives.
In Bagalkot, the Congress has nominated Umesh Meti (son of the late leader HY Meti) to contest against BJP’s Veerabhadrayya Charantimath. In Davanagere South, Congress candidate Samarth Mallikarjun (son of Minister SS Mallikarjun) is competing against BJP’s Srinivas T. Dasakariyappa.
Approximately 2.31 lakh voters are expected to cast their votes in Davanagere South, which comprises 284 voting stations and hosts 25 candidates. Over 2.59 lakh eligible voters are anticipated to participate in Bagalkot, where 319 polling booths will accommodate nine candidates.

Meanwhile, the Koridang (ST) seat in Nagaland features a contest between Congress’ T Chalukumba AO and Daochier I Imchen, who is representing the BJP following the demise of his late father, Imkong L Imchen. This constituency has 22,382 electors, including 11,071 women, who will determine the fate of six candidates.

In Dharmanagar, BJP’s Jahar Chakraborti contends with Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharjee and CPI(M)’s Amitabha Datta after the passing of Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen. A total of 46,183 voters are eligible to participate in this constituency.

Although a by-election was scheduled for Ponda, it was cancelled by the Bombay High Court.

Previously, the Election Commission released the schedule for by-elections in eight assembly constituencies across six states: Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and Tripura. Polling in Gujarat and Maharashtra is set for April 23.

The results for all constituencies will be revealed on May 4.
